Pensively Ponder

“If Jehovah does not build the house, they who build it labor in vain; if Jehovah does not keep the city, the one keeping it stays awake in vain. It is in vain for you to rise early, sit up late, to eat the bread of toils; for so He gives His beloved sleep” (Psalm 127:1-2).

False Religionist: So building the house and keeping the house is bad? Building the house and keeping it is bad then. Why build the house or do anything if God has predestined everything? Man’s will is not free from God’s active controlling predestinating decree, so why do anything at all? Is Jehovah building the house of salvation if I imperfectly build it on the shoddy self-righteous foundation of universal atonement?

Christian: “Imperfectly,” eh? Get thee to Romans 10:1-4. The PERSON of Jesus Christ, His efficacious WORK on the cross is the SOLE FOUNDATION APART from your self-righteous additions.

May true Christians by the power of the Holy Spirit pensively ponder upon Paternal provisions and blessings given to us in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:3-14).

“And He said to His disciples, Because of this I say to you, Do not be anxious as to your life, what you should eat; nor as to the body, what you should put on. The life is more than the food and the body than the clothing. Consider the ravens, for they do not sow, nor do they reap; to which there is no storehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much rather you differ from the birds! And who of you by being anxious is able to add one cubit to his stature? Then if you are not able to do even the least, why are you anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they do not labor, nor do they spin, but I say to you, Not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed as one of these. But if God so dresses the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much rather you, little-faiths? And you, do not seek what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, and stop being in anxiety. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you. Stop being afraid, little flock, because your Father was pleased to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:22-32).

“I will both lie down in peace and sleep; for You alone, O Jehovah, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).

“But I have all things and more than enough; I have been filled, receiving from Epaphroditus the things from you, an odor of sweet smell, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will fill your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Now may glory be to our God and Father forever and ever. Amen. Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers with me greet you. All the saints greet you, most of all those of Caesar’s house. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. Amen” (Philippians 4:18-23).
