Suitable Endeavors

“The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour” (Proverbs 21:25).

I am not promoting or endorsing George Swinnock as a true Christian when I quote from him, but I think he says some things that true Christians may benefit from.  These are comments by Swinnock on Proverbs 21:25:

“He is full of wishing, but far from working. … As the cat, he would fain have the fish, but is unwilling to wet his feet; his desires are destitute of suitable endeavors, and therefore rather harm than help him (George Swinnock, Works).

When I heard mention of Swinnock’s mew, I thought of something (perhaps not) new.  A sort of simple rhyme, but without a famous person this time.

The poetaster C-Duncan.
Silly child called him a ‘pumpkin.’
Feline fixate not on fish inscrutable.
Deliberate desire of flippers and goggles quite suitable.
